The E coast of Pulau Batam, from abreast Pulau Tandjung Sau to Tanjung Babi, the W point of the N entrance to Selat Riau, is hilly and completely overgrown, with a few scattered villages; it is fronted by a reef, extending in some places to a distance of 0.75 mile and having on it some large, above-water, and reddish-colored rocks.
