La côte E de l'île est élevée et inhospitalière. La pointe SEest débordée par deux rochers environnés de hauts-fonds: Le Gros Sarranier et Le Petit Sarranier. Il n'est pas commode de mouiller en bordure de la côte E de Porquerolles au rivage rocheux et escarpé où les fonds sont souvent accores. Mais les hauteurs de l'île assurent une bonne protection par Mistral.
