Otok Ciovo

Ciovo is an island in the center of the Dalmatian archipelago. This is an area of 28.8 acres (15.3 km length, width of 3.5 km). It culminates at 218 m (Mount Rudin).

O. Ciovo forms the SW side of the entrance and inner part of Kastelanski Zaliv.

At East side, Ciovo is 2km from the mainland (Cape Marjan), and Northwest O. Ciovo is connected by bridge to the mainland in the town of Trogir.

The south side of the island is exposed to the sirocco, however it is protected from the Bora unlike the N. side There are also several caves, the most prominent being Bilosaj and Anicina Jama (Pit d'Annie ).

The SW side of O. Ciovo is fronted by several islets and reefs.

In the NW of the island, cape..., there is an important shipyard with big cranes.

In the Middle Ages, lepers and sent the prisoners on the peninsula of Ciovo, this wild and rugged hill.
Currently the island is an extension of Trojir but also a kind of dam to the Gulf of Kastela.

Ciovo, est une île dans le centre de l’archipel dalmate. C'est un domaine de 28.8 ares (longueur 15.3 km, la largeur de 3.5 km). Elle culmine à 218 m (Mont Rudine).

O. Ciovo forme le côté SW intérieur de l'entrée de Kastelanski Zaliv.

A l’est, Ciovo est à 2km du continent (cap Marjan), et au Nord-Ouest O. Ciovo est reliée par un pont avec le continent dans la ville de Trogir.

Le côté sud de l’île est exposé au sirocco; toutefois elle est protégée de la Bora contrairement au côté N. Il existe également plusieurs grottes, les plus éminentes étant Bilosaj et Anicina Jama (Pit d’Annie).

Le côté SW de O. Ciovo est débordé par un certain nombre d'îles, îlots et rochers.

Au Moyen Age, on envoyait les lépreux et les prisonniers sur la presqu'île de Čiovo, cette colline âpre et sauvage.

Actuellement l'île est une extension de Trojir mais aussi une sorte de digue pour le golfe de Kastela.
