In the heart of the town we find the majestic old hospital or hostel
that dates from 1346 and was founded by Prince Peter (Infant Pere), the
son of James II and Blanca d’Anjou. It provided shelter for pilgrims and
travellers passing through the desolate Coll de Balaguer pass. This is
the origin of the name l’Hospitalet de l’Infant (Prince’s Hospital).
