Description

Boca Grande Channel, between Boca Grande Key and the Marquesas Keys, is about 15 miles W from Key West.

The channel has a controlling depth of about 11 feet from the Straits of Florida to the Gulf of Mexico and is marked by daybeacons, but is seldom used except by local boats of 6 feet or less draft.
The channels through Key West Harbor are deeper and better marked, and offer a shorter passage from the Gulf to the Straits of Florida.

Currents:

In Boca Grande Channel the average velocity of the current is 1.2 knots; the flood current sets N and the ebb SSW. The velocity of the current is considerably influenced by the winds.

Boca Grande Channel,entre Boca Grande Key et les Marquesas Keys, se trouve à environ 15 M à l'W de Key West.

Le passage a une profondeur contrôlée d'environ 3,3 m à partir du détroit de Floride jusqu'au Golfe de Mexico et il est balisé avec des balises non lumineuses, mais est rarement utilisé en dehors des bateaux locaux de 1,8 m de TE ou moins.

Le passage à Key West Harbor est plus profond et mieux balisé. Il offre un court chenal du Golfe de Mexico au détroit de Floride.

Courants:

Dans Boca Grande Channel la vitesse moyenne du courent est de 1,2 n?uds; le flux  vient du N et le reflux vient du SSW. La vitesse du courent est considérablement influencée par les vents.
