Chanaral is a small coastal city founded in 1833, near a copper mine. It occupies the SE end of the Chanaral bay. It has a small harbour that is important for the shipment of copper and ores.
The port is located in the area of Punta Blanca with a length of 38 m by 20 m wide and a depth of 12.5 m at the head of the dock. The ships dock consists of a series of conveyor belts and a tower discharge. There are 7 mooring buoys and signs.
The concrete dock has a rectangular surface of 38 m long and 20 m wide.
Oil Terminal is a terminal Barquito fuel with a TE of 18 m and 3 mooring buoys.
Chañaral is nowadays the home of a huge artificial white beach. Usually, this is good news for tourism, except that this particular beach was created from the wasts of the copper mines.
It has since become the population's curse. OCEAN71 Magazine wrote an article on the subject: http://ocean71.com/economy/chanaral-chile-pollution-copper-metal-mine-beach-pacific/
Spread the information, it is important!
Thanks, and take care.
