Le port, dans le canal de Velebit (Velebitski Kanal) est situé sur la côte N de Kvarner.
Senj, très exposé, est connu pour la férocité de ses coups de Bora, surtout en hiver, et les plaisanciers s'y rendent rarement.
Durant des siècles, ce fut un centre extrêmement important, entouré d'un système de fortifications très efficace.

Senj accueille un carnaval d'été international pendant la deuxième semaine du mois d'Août.

Amers: Le château carré de fort Nehaj sur la pointe S de la ville et le phare à son pied sont remarquables de toutes les directions.

Il n'y a aucun danger dans l'approche du port qui est situé sur le côté N du promontoire.

Il y a plusieurs possibilité d'amarrage. On choisira l'emplacement qui procurera la meilleure protection en fonction des conditions météorologiques, le long du brise-lames N, le long de la jetée dans l'angle SE ou le long du quai près de la capitainerie sur le côté S du port.

Il y a au moins 3 m de fond à chacun de ces emplacements.

Protection: médiocre, la Bora, qui souffle de l'ENE, peut survenir presque sans avertissement.
